PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN:
Some call it punk rock, some call it grass roots, but labels aside – NYC based Animation Block Party is dedicated to exhibiting the world’s best independent, professional and student animation.
Our main mode of broadcast is the once a year, Animation Block Party, a four day film Brooklyn festival in late July. ABP summer festivals are full of indoor/outdoor events, juried prizes, cool sponsored stuff, good music, cold drinks and the world’s best animated shorts on-screen.
This summer from July 27-30, 2007 – Animation Block Party will screen nearly one hundred animated shorts ranging in genre and theme. Every night of the festival will culminate with an excellent after party as described at: www.animationblock.com/summerfest
Animation Block does offer other sources of exhibition, such as the web selects section of our site that promotes animation makers and their films. We also distribute shorts through our Animation Block Party
Mix-Tapes, DVD releases that showcase some of the festival’s best shorts.Since the premiere of the first official Animation Block Party film festival on September 9th 2004 – we have received over 2000 animation submissions from all ends of the earth. This no holds barred hip-hop dance battle does not stop to some one jumps out the circle. The first session has some of the hottest B-Girl dance moves on the planet, duking it out for the love of the style, followed by the B-Boys and their patented moves. After the girls and boys square off against one each other, the Frienemies session starts with a free for all where girls and boys, friends and foe, walk it out for a chance to represent New York City at the U.K. B-Boy Championships. All tunes will be spun by DJ Bobbito Garcia aka Kool Bob Love.
If you know any Australians, you know these people know their way around beer and BBQ. So tonight, why not see them at their best at AusFest, where there will be free exotic ale, meet pies and, of course, shrimp on the barbie. Sponsored by the Barrons of Australia, it is going to be held down under the Williamsburg Bridge, at the Delancey. Music will be provided by Aussie bands Second Dan, Tamarama and the Kin Free.
Back in the 90s, the was a movement of sculpted sound that seems lost on the new generation of this genre. Tonight there is an almost all-star make-up of those bands with ex-members of Helmet, noodlemeister and Lynx. They go by the handle Battles. Featuring Tyondai Braxton, this is best of math rock, electronic loops and prog on the rock. A must see for anyone wanting to see a forward-thinking band steeped in history of the sound.
